I’ve become a Trip Advisor fanatic these days. Okay, so like my profile doesn’t have a lot of information. But it will. 😀 It’s a great place to get some good information befor you book your next trip. And considering we don’t always like to stay the same place twice, it’s invaluable. In fact, it was the difference between paying more money for a hotel without bed bugs versus one a cheaper one that had bed bugs and where I thought I was getting a deal.
If I had my way about it, the perfect job for me would be traveling the country with my toddler and my mom and writing reviews on our experience. *knock knock* Anyday know Travel Channel. I’m ready to go with my own series when you are. 😉
Sadly, I like reviewing my vacations more than I do books or movies, which are my first loves. I think it’s because I’m a lot closer to travel and have no problem with giving a no-hold’s barred opinion about my experience. When it comes to books and movies, I’m sort of sitting there helplessly without being about to interact with the characters. Nevertheless, I’m always on the lookout for a good book or movie.
Anyway, my next venture won’t happen until Thanksgiving. I’m scoping out hotels around Marietta, GA where my family lives. I’m also planning to hit up my own neighbors like Six Flags and the Atlanta Zoo. Underground Atlanta, the Georgia Aquarium, and the Coke Museum are also on my list. Considering I’ve been to some of these places before (like the aquarium), I already know they rank high on my list. But I heard there are have been some changes since the last time we were there, so I’m hoping they’re for the better.
There are some other highlights we’re planning for 2013 like visiting the family in upstate NY and hitting up New Orleans for the first time. I’m still on the fence when it comes to the many conventions I’d like to attend, but we’ll see. Hopefully, I’ll do a much better job at reviewing those too.
Are there any vacation highlights that you guys have had during the summer?
Wow. I can’t believe it’s been more than a month since my last post. I guess I can say I’ve been up to a lot of things, though writing is only recently one of them. Actually, writing took a back seat for a while, but I’m back in the saddle again. It’s really hard to write when you have a two-year old underneath you all of the time. 🙂
Anyway, we finally got a new–used–van for traveling in comfort, though it’s not much comfort for me, since I’m the primary driver. Baby girl can say a bunch of words now, one of them being the word “Damn”. Honestly, I have no idea where she got it. But what bugs me the most is that she might be saying the F-word, though I can’t quite make it out yet. Oh, and we had a blast at the beach this past weekend, too. Little Bit is still afraid of the waves that come crashing against the shore, but the sand? Good lord. That kid loves playing the sand and tracking it all back to our room. Even today, she brings her beach toys to the car, thinking that we’re going to beach when we’re only going to the store.
As for my reading pleasure, I’m still trying to catch up on Lydia Dare books, though I have no idea which book I’m on right now, except for the one with the blue cover. 😆 Also, I broke down and finally got around to reading The Hunger Games and all I can say is Holy S*** that’s a good book! Ten times better than Twilight. Ten times more sensible than Twilight, too. All I can say is I’m going to get my hands on a copy of Catching Fire. Of course, the cheapskate that I am, I’ll either wait until paperback or do ebook. I don’t buy hard-copies of anything. So now that I want to let The Hunger Games simmer for a while before I move on to the next book, I’m going to start a new one called Blood Red Road. Thanks to Simon and Schuster for sending it to me, though I had a feeling the only reason why they sent it (with the Shapeshifter Romance blog reference) was because they thought I was the blog secretary or something. Then again, they probably thought that my writing career wasn’t as import as the other bestselling bloggers, so therefore, I might have time to actually review a book. Not! Anyway, of all the books they had sent over the past year, this was the only one that somewhat intrigued me. But before I forget, there is one book that I’ve been interested in getting called Starters by Lissa Price. Unfortunately, it’ll be awhile because of that no-buy-hardcovers thing I have going on right now. 😉
So other than that and trying to carve out time for more writing, that’s what I’ve been up to.
Chow for now!
In case you haven’t noticed, I’ve been on vacation for the last two weeks. The emails havedried up, the same with the phone calls, and so has the blog-hopping. None of this was intentional, but rather, it happened because life (as wonderful as it has been to me thus far) has gotten in the way.
My family visited from upstate NY. Though I had seen them this past November during a surprise trip up there, they haven’t visited me in more than 8 years. Nevertheless, I love my big brother and his family with all of my heart and would hold up my entire life to enjoy some family time when them.
Not only that, but they brought my mother down, who is officially moved in. She’s been my biggest supporter when it came to me decided to become a single mother by choice. Other than me, she will be the primary caregiver for her granddaughter. I don’t know about most of you, but I love my mom with every ounce of my fiber. She rocks! I guess that’s why I have a hard time understanding why more daughters don’t get along with their mothers. Sure, she drives me crazy from time to time, but I wouldn’t trade her in for anything.
So where does writing fit in with all of this? Well…it hasn’t. No writing had gotten done and strangely enough, I don’t miss it. Sure there’s this niggling feeling at the back of my head that keeps screaming for me to finish my YA–and I will–but it’s not enough to make me drop everything or start foaming at the mouth if I don’t get any writing time. Don’t get me wrong either. I LOVE writing. It’s just that it hasn’t been the focal point of the last few weeks like it has been for years and it feels great. Weird, I know, but that’s how it is.
Despite all of that, I want to get some writing done. My stories are beginning to take over my every thoughts these days. New stories are beginning to emerge and I want to get as much done as possible before Little Bit is here. My first course of action was to sign up for the 2010 Romantic Times Booklovers Convention. I can’t wait to see my name on the list as one of the attending authors. Not only that, but I’m keeping my eye on guest spots opening up.
So even though it might be a little time before I get back into the groove again–have I mentioned that pregnancy makes you awfully tired?–don’t count me out just yet. I’m slowly getting my groove back.
